Favorite Movie – Silver Linings Play Book

Silver Linings Play Book is a 2012 American romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by David O. Russell, based off the book Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. It is about a man named Patrick “Pat” Solitano (Bradley Cooper) with a bipolar disorder, who is released from a psychiatric hospital and moves back in with his parents. Determined to get his wife back his arms, Pat meets Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence), who agrees to help him get his wife back if he enters a dance competition with her. The two become closer as they train together and Pat, his father, and Tiffany examine their relationships with each other as they cope with their issues.


Favorite TV Show – “Scandal”

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) has dedicated her life to protecting and defending public images of the nation’s elite and keeping those secrets under all wraps. With much fear, Oliva, a former communcations director to the President of the United States, left the White House to open her own crisis management firm. With this firm, she is hoping to start a new chapter in her life, but she can’t seem to cut ties with her past completely. Slowly but surely, it becomes apparent that her staff, which specializes in fixing other people’s lives, can’t quite fix their own lives. The creator and executive producers of Grey Anatomy and Private Practice go behind-the-scenes of a mesmerizing top crisis manager in ABC’s the American political television series, “Scandal.”

Favorite Book – To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

“I love this book so much, I even named my hamster Atticus,” she said.


To Kill a Mockingbird is a 1960 novel written by Harper Lee. It focuses on a 6-year-old girl named Scout Finch as she lives through racial injustice and the destruction of innocence in the fictional town in Maycomb, Alabama. Her father, Atticus, whom is a lawyer, is appointed to defend a black man, Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a young white woman. Since the story is set in the 30’s, there are many racial elements are included in the trial. The plot and characters in the novel are loosely based on Harper Lee’s observations of her family and her old neighbors, as well as an event that occurred near her hometown when she was just 10 years old. The novel went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic.

Favorite Movie – The Avengers

“The Avengers is such an amazing movie, I love it so much,” she said.

The Avengers is a 2012 American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. The film is about when an unexpected enemy emerges and threatens global safety and security, Nicky Fury, the director of the S.H.I.E.L.D, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the disaster. Nonetheless, he calls on The Avengers to aid him in this fight for peace. The Avengers was debuted in theaters on May 4, 2012.


Favorite TV Show – “Duck Dynasty”

“Duck Dynasty” is an American reality television show that is broadcasted on A&E. It shows the lives of the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business, Duck Commander. This business is operated in West Monroe, Louisiana, that makes products for duck hunters. With only four seasons broadcasted, “Duck Dynasty” has managed to break several ratings records for both A&E and cable television as a whole.


Favorite Book – James Herriot’s Veterinarian Series

Written in an episodic manner, Herriot generates a short story pertaining to an ongoing narrative of his life within each chapter of his books. The series is based on Herriot’s many years of experiences as a veterinary surgeon. The episodic format that he followed, eventually led his book series to becoming a British television series.

Favorite Movie – French Kiss

French Kiss is a 1995 American romantic comedy film directed by Lawrence Kasdan. It is about a woman who flies to France to confront her fiancé who gets into trouble when a charming crook seated next her uses her to smuggle a stolen diamond necklace. The movie was filmed on location in France.


Favorite TV Show – “Law and Order” (the old version)

“Law and Order” is a criminal justice television series that follows a crime which is usually adapted from current headlines, from two separate vantage points. Each episode is broken into two segments. The first half of the show focuses on the investigation of the crime by the police, and the second half follows the prosecution of the crime in court. The series lasted from the 1990-2010.


Favorite Book – In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez

First published in 1994, In the Time of the Butterflies is a historical novel relating to an account of the Mirabal sisters during the time of the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. In this novel, the voices of all four sisters, Minerva, Patria, María Teresa, and Dedé, speak across the decades to tell their own stories. From hair ribbons and secret crushes to gunrunning and prison torture, the sisters describe the everyday horrors of life under Trujillo’s rule.
