McCluer North’s annual student council elections have come to a close, naming seniors Matthew Graham, Malik Jones, and Ashley Tate, president, vice president and secretary.

“There were hundreds of votes, but there were still clear winners in the end,” said STUCCO sponsor Ms. Palliser.

The students who won have a reputation for being involved in many different school and extracurricular activities. President Matthew Graham believes this is just one reason he was voted to be a representative of the student body.

“I’m involved and get to meet a lot of students while I do these activities and I think that makes me a good rep,” said Graham.

Tate, who is the secretary, is also very involved.

“I’m active in the school, I know a lot of teachers and students. I’m well organized. I can be the voice for the students,” said Tate, who was running against her cousin during this year’s elections.

Jones has already gone to work. He attended the November Building Improvement Committee (BIC) meeting and suggested the school purchase another microwave in the concourse area.

“I think I’ll be a good representative because I’ll respectfully put out the opinions of students and get things done.”

All of the new representatives hope to be able to help speak for the students and to offer the students chances to speak for themselves. They also hope to encourage others to actually listen.

“I hope that problems students have can actually be heard, not just talked about,” said Graham.

This year’s team of reps, have know each other since freshman year and are ready to work together.
