Gateway to Success

Students select their favorite novel of the year, Divergent

By Ms. Williams

A big congratulations to the following students who participated and voted in the 2014 Missouri Librarians Association Gateway Readers Program: Dynasty Davis, Rachel Fantroy, Lauren Everett, Brittney Morrow, Zakiya Richardson, Lindsey Ellermen, Destinee Webb, Brianna Fox, and Gabrielle Haynes-Levett. The student selected state-wide Gateway novel of the year is Divergent by Veronica Ross.
It is not too early to start reading next year’s nominees. They include the following:  Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon;  Starters by Lisssa Price; Something Like Normal by Trish Doller; Of Poseidon by Anna Banks; Article 5 by Kristen Simmons; Croak by Gina Damico; Burning Blue by Paul Griffin; The Fault in Our Stars by John Green; Trafficked by Kim Purcell; The Night She Disappeared by April Henry; Every Day by David Levithan; Revived by Cat Patrick; Boy21 by Matthew Quick; Dark Eyes by William Richter; and Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf.
Our library already has some of these novels, and we will have multiple copies for next year; however, you don’t have to wait.  The St. Louis County Library has all the titles available right now. You can participate in their summer reading program “Spark a Reaction”, earn prizes from them, and get a head start on our program too. Have a fun, safe summer, and read!
